Thick haar rolled in off the Firth of Forth and brought the Genesis Scottish Open to a halt twice on Saturday. By the time the third round finally concluded on Sunday morning at The Renaissance Club, three players stood locked at the top of the leaderboard.
Robert MacIntyre, the defending champion from Oban, posted a bogey-free 65 to reach 12 under. Matt Fitzpatrick matched that total with a 66 that included a clutch birdie on the last. Min Woo Lee joined them at the same mark. The trio will head out last this afternoon in what looks like a proper scrap.
I have stood on these links in weather like this. You wait, you walk, you try to stay loose. MacIntyre looked the most settled when play resumed. No dropped shots after the long delay tells you something about the man.
Final group set for afternoon start
The final round is due off at 14:50 BST with that leading trio in the last group. Chris Gotterup and Tom Kim sit just a shot back at 11 under, so the chasers are never far away. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, could only manage a 73 and finds himself at six under, needing something special this afternoon.
This is exactly what professional golf should look like: clear skies eventually, strong individual performances and a domestic event that still pulls the best players as they tune up for The Open. MacIntyre's win here in 2024 at the same venue made him a national favourite. Seeing him leading again feels right.
Fitzpatrick has been in fine form throughout 2026. His closing birdie showed the sort of composure that wins tournaments. Lee, for his part, has slotted seamlessly into the mix. Three very different swings, three players tied at the top of a proper British links event.
