This activity reflects the underlying economic and creative capacity of the sector, built on commercial decisions rather than external directives.
Historical drama leads new slate
Among the titles currently shooting is The Price of Peace, which centres on the 1945 Potsdam Conference. Directed by Anthony McCarten, the film is produced by Raccoon Features, Muse of Fire Productions and Salloway Studios. Filming began in July in London and continues.
It stars Guy Pearce as Harry S. Truman, Jared Harris as Winston Churchill and Merab Ninidze as Joseph Stalin. The project is sold by SND. According to Screen Daily, the production draws from confidential industry sources that track principal photography schedules.
Wide geographical spread
Other films under way include Landlines in Connemara, Ireland; Tangled Up In Blue in Wales; Isle of Man on the Isle of Man; The Batman Part II in London and Liverpool; and The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, also shooting in London and Liverpool. Schedules for these titles range from earlier in the year through to ongoing production.
High-end television series form a substantial part of the picture. Harry Potter continues at Warner Bros Leavesden. Season two of Alien: Earth is filming in London. Wednesday season three is in production in Ireland. Bridgerton series five is under way in London, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series two occupies Belfast Studios in Northern Ireland.
